Contest: SolarPunk
A game where you can fish for different types of fish, featuring multiple minigames.
The frogs have a structure for dialogue, and they look at you when you get close to them.
We wanted to share some important context about our room. We ran into major technical issues with RoomV2 that prevented us from saving the game properly. Our room kept corrupting with the 8700 error. This issue persisted throughout the entire contest and forced us to cut a lot of the content we had originally planned. Near the end of development, we also tried to fix some smaller bugs caused by RoomV2, and adjusting the voice roll-off, but we couldn’t make those changes due to the save corruption.
All saves in the red area were our last attempts to fix the issues, but all of them got corrupted.
At the end of development, we had inventions with room anchors ready to place to make the game feel less empty, but due to the saving bug, we couldn't get them into the game.
Another problem we encountered was when we made an invention of the fish selection UI. Some configurations were changed: the rotator holding all the fish became grabbable, and the text format location were reset to the center. We managed to fix it before the deadline, but the save got corrupted.
We also figured out that if you don't have Room Creation Data loaded (i.e., if you don't have Maker Pen), there are a lot of visual issues, and many circuits just don't work.
The visual issues are with tubes not loading in correctly and interaction volumes not showing the correct areas. Another visual bug we have in our game is with the fishing game, related to the recolor chip: if you're not holding your Maker Pen, the fish doesn't get recolored and stays two different shades of blue, even though every fish is supposed to have unique colors.
There are two main issues I have found: the fixing pipe game doesn't work at all because the circuits/replicators aren't functioning, and the fish selection UI also doesn't work because you can't interact with the interaction volumes.
Fish Selection UI not working (interaction volume)
On the left, you can see someone without creation data loaded, and on the right, someone with it. You can see that without creation data, it doesn't work due to RoomsV2. (on the right some elements are also invisible.)
We encountered a very annoying bug with the animation gizmo:
The bug occurs when moving the animation gizmo using circuits — only the authority of the object can see it move. However, if the object's authority has circuits enabled, then everyone can see it moving.
This bug caused us to remove the most complex circuit in the Fishing Circuit: the Custom NavMesh.
